Mann, Estes disapprove of Department of Labor rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The following bill was co-sponsored by U.S. House members from Kansas for the week ending May 2.

Rep. Kevin Kiley, R-Calif., introduced a joint resolution on March 6. The text and summary of the resolution was released on April 23.

H.J. Res. 116. A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of the Labor relating to “Employee or Independent Contractor Classification Under the Fair Labor Standards Act”; to the Committee on Education and the Workforce.

The resolution is cosponsored by Reps. Tracey Mann and Ron Estes from Kansas, and 52 other Republicans.

“Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Congress disapproves the rule submitted by the Department of Labor relating to “Employee or Independent Contractor Classification Under the Fair Labor Standards Act” (89 Fed. Reg. 1638 (January 10, 2024)), and such rule shall have no force or effect.”
