LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley's girls edged Hoisington 115-110 for the Central Kansas League track championship. Pratt's boys (159.5) held a decisive edge over runner-up Hoisington (118).

“We battled to the end in trying to bring home CKL titles, but we fell a bit short," said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. "It's a time of the year when you find yourself weighing the option of is it best to participate in order to win a team league title, or whether it's better for that athlete to have the best of chance to compete at the regional. Our coaches were  pleased with the efforts of all team members. They made us proud, and I 'm sure their parents, and the Cardinal Nation."

Hoisington's girls earned gold medals by Sofia Simic, high jump (5-1); and the 400-meter relay (50.33) with Shellamae Farmer, Kelsi Maier, Mallory Mooney and Marley Bittel.

Runner-up medals were earned by Bittel, 100 (12.31); Farmer, pole vault (12-3); 100-meter hurdles (16.96); 300 hurdles (50.45); Mooney, triple jump (35-91/4);

Larned's Cadee Upson was runner-up in the shot put (36-101/4). The Indians placed second in the 400-meter relay (51.27).

CARDINAL BOYS — Hoisington's triple winner Joshua Ball won the 110 hurdles (14.87); 300 hurdles (40.06) and pole vault (13-6) to spark the Cardinals to second place (118) behind champion Pratt (159.5).

Kamden Tarlton swept the 1,600 (4:38.33) and 3,200 (10:18.8). Caiden Hoffman won the shot put (54-5). Runner-up medals were earned by Hoisington's Tristan Thompson, 100 (11.21); Taylen Morales, pole vault (12-6).

"The girls and boys’ teams were outstanding," Schmidt said. "Many team members posted personal bests. Both the boys and girls’ teams finished in second. Many of the competitors you'll see on the podium at the state meet."

Larned's Fischer won the javelin (162-2).
