Two more deaths reported in Barton County

Barton County has seen 35 deaths attributed to COVID-19, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Friday. This is an increase of two deaths since the previous report on Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Statewide, there were 227,745 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 6,903 hospitalizations and 2,879 deaths as of 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1. There were 5,312 new cases, 138 new deaths and 143 new hospitalizations reported since last Wednesday.

Data are preliminary and subject to quality improvement and quality assurance validation.

The total cases to date for area counties are: Barton, 2,229; Ellis, 3,231; Ellsworth, 1,059; Pawnee, 1,012; Rice, 820; Rush, 343; Russell, 717; Stafford, 272.

The total number of deaths in area counties and any change from Wednesday are: Ellis, 54 (previous total unknown); Ellsworth, 10; Pawnee 7 (plus 2); Rice, 4 (plus 1); Rush, 8; Russell 16 (plus 1); Stafford 8. 

Barton County has seen 70 total hospitalizations, including 17 intensive care unit admissions and seven requiring mechanical ventilation; 50 patients have been discharged. The data only includes cases with available discharge information reported to KDHE.

Pawnee County has had 30 hospital admissions, 8 to ICU, and 19 discharged patients.
