Larned’s Kim Beckwith has been competing in the NRA Bianchi Cup Championships for the past two years. His performances there tipped the scales, and earlier this month the NRA’s Competitive Shooting division chose him to shoot at the World Championships of pistol shooting in Australia in October.

LARNED — Kim Beckwith, Larned, recently learned he has been selected by the National Rifle Association’s Competitive Shooting division to represent the United States at the World Championships in pistol shooting.

“At 65, this is quite an honor,” he told the Tribune Friday. Despite his age, he will not be competing as a senior, he said.

As a U.S. team member, Beckwith will participate in the prestigious World Championships in Toowoomba, Queensland Australia on October 7-10, 2020. Toowoomba is the second most populous inland city in Australia after the national capital of Canberra and is known as “The Garden City” due to over 150 public parks and gardens.

“The U.S. Action Pistol Team selection process is based on consistent and exceptional performances in both the 2018 and 2019 NRA Bianchi Cup Championships,” the letter from Elizabeth Martin, the program coordinator of the pistol department of the NRA’s Competitive Shooting Division stated.

The Tribune reported about Beckwith’s performance at the 2019 Bianchi Cup in the June 21, 2019 edition, as well as an in depth feature about his involvement in the shooting sports for the September-October 2019 edition of the Tribune magazine Prime Life.

“It is so exciting to realize that at 65 I am one of at least the Top 12 in the USA,” he said. “We were not really told where we ranked, but there are three 4-person World Open Teams. “

Beckwith has been a long-time international competitor in pistol marksmanship and will be joining other members of the team in Australia for the Championships.
