The Great Bend Police Department fielded fireworks complaints Saturday and Sunday, with the bulk of the calls coming Friday night. The first complaint was at 5:52 p.m. Saturday and complaints continued past midnight. The last complaint was at 8:56 p.m. Sunday.


Great Bend Fire/EMS

Emergency Medical Service made seven ambulance runs Friday, six Saturday and five Sunday. They were on standby at the drag races Friday and Saturday.

Firefighters responded to a wheat fire at 2:52 p.m. Friday near the intersection of NE 30 Road and NE 10 Ave.

On Saturday there was a grass fire at 8:17 p.m. in the 100 block of NE 10 Ave. Firefighters also responded to two smoke detector malfunctions and performed one carbon monoxide check.

A possible fire was reported at 4:45 p.m. Sunday at Great Bend Housing Authority, 1101 Kansas Ave., where an appliance had overheated and was smoking. There was also a report of arcing wires in the 1300 block of Harding St.


Great Bend Police

Theft of a 2011 Ford pickup was reported at 6:10 a.m. Friday at Travelers Budget Inn, 4200 10th St. The vehicle was located parked in the area and released to the owner.

At 3:21 p.m. an individual in the 2000 block of 30th St. reported the registration plate missing from a vehicle that had been stolen and was recovered.

At 5:51 p.m. a registration plate was located in the Cerv’s parking lot, 1000 Main. The owner was located and the property was returned.

An injury crash was reported at 6:31 p.m. Friday. A vehicle driven by Vernon Stevens was southbound on Stone St. and left the roadway at 11th and Stone, striking a utility pole.

GBPD responded to a domestic complaint at 11:53 p.m. Friday at Presto-Circle K, 2337 Washington St. The reporting party said Tyler Witten, Great Bend, battered her and fled. An attempt to locate (ATL) bulletin was issued. Witten was later arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail on Saturday for domestic battery, domestic assault and interference with a law enforcement officer. He was released on his own recognizance at 3:19 a.m. Monday after being held for 48 hours.

A hit-and-run crash was reported at 10:03 p.m. Saturday in the 3300 block of 10th St. The vehicle was located in Ellinwood and the Ellinwood Police Department arrested Bennett Huslig, Ellinwood, for driving under the influence. A GBPD officer issued a citation Saturday night for the alleged hit and run at 10th and Harrison. Huslig was booked into the county jail on multiple charges and released after posting a $2,500 surety bond.

Arcing wires were reported at 5:22 a.m. Sunday at 2508 Shawnee Dr. Wheatland Electric responded.

Criminal damage to two vehicles parked at 801 Holland St. was reported Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to a domestic call at 4:20 p.m. Sunday at 1409 Harding St. Danielle Wylot was arrested for domestic battery and battery of a law enforcement officer, as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Wylot was booked into the Barton County Jail and released after posting a $2,500 surety bond.

A vehicle on a driveway at 2316 McCormick St. sustained criminal damage, it was reported Sunday. 

A lost wallet was reported at 12:08 a.m. Monday at Braum’s, 4209 10th St.


Barton County Sheriff

BCSO responded to a domestic call at 12:59 a.m. Friday at 2005 Patton Road, Great Bend. GBPD reports assisting at this location at 2:13 a.m.

A non-injury crash was reported at 7:54 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of NE 90 Ave. Great Bend.

A search warrant was issued at 2:44 p.m. Friday at 308 Pine St. in Raymond.

A fire was reported at 2:54 p.m. Friday at NE 30 Road. and NE 10 Ave.

A battery was reported at 5:11 p.m. at Stone Sand Company, 421 Washington St., Great Bend.

A theft was reported at P&S Security, 255 W. Barton County Road, Great Bend.

A fire was reported at 9:52 p.m. Friday at 211 Hoisington St., Susank.

A non-injury crash was reported at 10:12 p.m. Friday at NW K-96 mile marker 178, Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 2:12 a.m. Saturday at North U.S. 281 and NE 30 Road.

A non-injury crash was reported at 12:24 p.m. Saturday at East U.S. 56 mile marker 215, Ellinwood.

A fire was reported at 8:19 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of NE 10 Ave., Great Bend.

A fire was reported at 7:05 p.m. Sunday at NE 50 Road and NE 20 Ave., Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 8:12 p.m. Sunday at 305 North Hoisington, Susank.
