Great Bend Fire/EMS

Emergency Medical Service responded to 12 calls on Tuesday.

The department performed one standby for the Great Bend Police Department. Firefighters also had one false alarm at 8:10 p.m. which turned out to be a barbecue grill at Second and Chestnut. There was one mutual aid fire call for Ellinwood at 11:13 a.m. in the area of SE 70 Ave and SE 50 Road.


Barton County Sheriff

The BCSO drug recognition expert was called to 209 N. Broadway St. in St. John at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday by Stafford County.

An injury crash was reported at 3:38 p.m. on North U.S. 281 at mile maker 106. Kansas Highway Patrol responded. There were no actual injuries, but traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes after one vehicle rear-ended another in what became a three-vehicle crash. Workers were also striping the road at the time.

An injury crash was reported at 4:05 p.m. at SW 60 Ave. and SW 20 Road. A 2004 Jeep Wrangler driven by Kevin Weese, 55, Great Bend, was turning east on SW 20 Road and made too wide of a turn. The Jeep hit the embankment and rolled one-half time. Weese, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained lacerations to his head and was transported to The University of Kansas Health System Great Bend Campus. 


Great Bend Police

A theft was reported Tuesday at Travelers Budget Inn, 4200 10th St.

A non-injury crash was reported at 12:09 p.m. at 21st and Washington.

A motorist struck a legally parked car at 12:17 p.m. at 1201 Eisenhower.

An individual contacted police at 1:08 p.m. and reported being battered by an unknown male subject at Smokers Outlet, 3220 10th St.

Someone scratched a vehicle at Great Bend High School, 2027 Morton.

A non-injury crash was reported at 2:28 p.m. at 12th and Morphy.

A fraud was reported at Farmers Bank and Trust after someone used a fake card number and made charges out of state.

Burglaries were reported Wednesday morning at Walnut Plaza Apartments, 2611 27th St., and at 1026 Madison St.
