Vehicle crashes after going the wrong way on I-70
KHP patch

Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash Sunday in Russell County, after a car that was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 turned around but then left the roadway.

According to the KHP online crashlogs, the driver, Trudy L. Haynes, 51, from Hutchinson, was taken to Russell Regional Hospital with what was believed to be minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, around 3 p.m. on Jan. 26, approximately 7 miles west of Russell.

Haynes was in a westbound 2003 Honda Accord in the eastbound lanes of traffic on I-70, then turned around and was eastbound in the eastbound lanes. The car ran off the roadway to the right, struck a drainage ditch and went airborne, then reentered the roadway and traveled a short distance eastbound. The vehicle exited the roadway to the right again and went through a Kansas Department of Transportation fence and came to rest in a creek that feeds into a pond.
