GREAT BEND — David H. Smith, 53, passed away April 2, 2020, at the University of Kansas Health System, Great Bend Campus. He was born on July 15, 1966, at Great Bend, to Randy & Sandy (Pedigo) Smith. He married Heather L. Davis on May 21, 2005, at Great Bend. She survives. 

A lifetime Great Bend resident, David was a Sergeant for the Barton County Sheriff’s Office. He was the president of the DARE Association and a member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association. He ran the gun range at the sheriff’s office and enjoyed shooting. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. He enjoyed NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, golfing and hunting.  

Survivors include, his wife, Heather Smith of the home; his parents, Randy and Sandy Smith of Great Bend; four daughters, Kenda Werth and husband Brandon, Madison Smith, McKayla Smith and Kaycee Smith, all of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Jaselyn, Brielle and Ava; and his father and mother in law, Mike and Debbie Davis of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chet and Louise Smith, and Howard and Melva Pedigo; a brother-in-law, Travis Davis; and aunt, Kandis Pedigo. 

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Private family services will be held with Pastor Morita Truman presiding, due to restrictions and limitations set forth by the State of Kansas. All Law Enforcement personnel will gather in the funeral home parking lot to process for interment in the Great Bend Cemetery North. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Barton County Sheriff’s Reserves Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
