Pfizer shots OKed for 12+
It's time for more of us to get the COVID-19 vaccine

There was good news Wednesday when Governor Laura Kelly announced that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will now be available to those ages 12+ in Kansas.

This decision was based on increasing evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for young people, the governor announced.

Wouldn’t it be great if, by Great Bend’s graduation day on May 23, 85% or more of the seniors, not to mention their friends and family over 12 years old who attend the ceremony, could have this vaccine? It is available.

Those under 18 do need written parental consent for vaccination.

Older adults and those with other risk factors are most likely to die or be hospitalized due to COVID-19 but children can still suffer bad outcomes from the disease. The virus and its variants continue to spread. Students age 12 and older can avoid quarantine in some cases after exposure to someone with COVID-19 or after travel by being vaccinated.

To find a vaccine provider near you, visit www.Vaccines.gov or text your zip code to 438829 (GETVAX) or in Spanish, text your zip code to 822862 (VACUNA).

Those age 16 and older have had time to get the vaccine. If you haven’t, why not? Some have their reasons and it’s a personal topic. If you are in the group that is hesitant but open to being persuaded, share your concerns with a medical professional.
