It took the Barton women’s soccer team nearly 35 minutes before the Cougars scored their first goal Wednesday afternoon against Pratt.

Over the next 45 minutes, Barton scored 12 more times at the Barton Sports Complex.

The offensive explosion in the 13-0 win over Pratt in the Jayhawk West is just the latest in a string of high-scoring, fast-paced blowouts for the Cougars.

Barton has now won four straight – all in conference – and are 5-2-1 overall on the season. The Cougars are 4-0-1 in the Jayhawk. Pratt is 1-4 and 3-5.

It is the second time in four games Barton has scored 13 goals. The Cougars scored 12 in that stretch as well with a 6-0 win the lowest output in the past four outings.

In those four matches, the Cougars have outscored their opponents 44-0.

All four of those contests were at home, where the Cougars are now 5-0 with a 53-1 scoring margin.

Leading the way for Barton was freshman sensation Rayssa Neres. The Brazilian scored five times in the match to go with two assists and now has a staggering 17 goals and seven assists in eight games.

In the current 4-game stretch, Neres has 13 goals and five assists. Those 17 goals for Neres lead the conference by seven and are more than all but five teams have scored in the Jayhawk this year. She is seventh nationally.

Larissa Fagundes scored two more times to run her season total to nine. Laura Maria finished with one assist to put her in the Jayhawk lead with 10 on the season. Maria also scored her ninth goal of the season.

Things will get much tougher Saturday night for Barton. The Cougars will travel north to take on West leader Cloud County. The Thunderbirds are ranked No. 15 in the nation and are currently unbeaten on the season.

Cloud is 5-0 and alone atop the West and 7-0 overall on the season. First kick at Clark Stadium in Concordia is set for 6 p.m.
