The magic is back for the Great Bend Chiefs. 

Sparkplug Riley Smith scored the game-winning run on a fly ball by Nahum Olivas for a 6-5 walkoff baseball victory Tuesday over Dodge City. Christian Zahnter’s sacrifice bunt moved Smith to second base after a walk issued by pitcher Bryan Holz. Smith advanced to third base on a passed ball.

Winning pitcher Carson Smith threw 12/3 shutout innings.

The Chiefs (10-4) swept Tuesday’s doubleheader by scoring the game-winning run in their final at-bat at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Chiefs play at the Salina Falcons Wednesday. 

CHIEFS 6, DODGE CITY 5 (G2) — The Chiefs led 2-0 when Zahnter and Olivas scored on a second-inning error. Calan Haberman scored when Carson Smith was hit by a pitch.

Dodge City’s Damian Rodriguez doubled home Mendoza and Joey Montgomery in the third inning. Adrian Mendoza singled home Bryan Holz for a 3-3 tie after four innings.  Montgomery scored on Rodriguez’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly for a 4-3 lead.

Carson Smith scored on Riley Smith’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly after back-to-back walks. Haberman’s single scored Colin Hall for a 5-4 lead.

Dodge City’s Erubiel Duron scored on Alex Schremmer’s sixth-inning error. Schremmer ended the threat by turning a double play on Herardia Garcia.

CHIEFS 8, DODGE CITY 7 (G2) — Great Bend Chief Christian Zahnter delivered the thunder after a lightning delay at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Zahnter's game-winning single scored Colin Hall for a hard-fought 8-7 Legion baseball victory over Dodge City Tuesday.

Great Bend Chief Joey Soupiset singled home Carson Smith and Hall for a 6-6 tie after six innings when lightning delayed play for 35 minutes.

Dodge City led 7-6 when Damian Rodriguez scored on Townshend Kurth's throwing error in the seventh inning. Kurth quickly redeemed himself with an RBI infield single to score Alex Schemmer for a 7-7 tie. Schremmer reached on a two-out error and moved to third base after a steal and a throwing error by the catcher.

Great Bend (9-4) rallied from a 6-0 deficit after 21/2 innings.

Dodge City led 6-0. Damian Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly by J.J. Gonzales. Three Chiefs errors led to a five-run third inning.  Gonzales delivered a two-run single and Erubiel Duron, Garcia and Holz added RBIs for a 6-0 lead off starter Colin Hall.

Soupiset singled home Townshend Kurth after a third-inning double. Zahnter scored on Schremmer's fourth-inning groundout and Jayce Kohls scored on an error for a 6-3 score. Schremmer reached on a sixth-inning error and scored on Carson Smith's single. Soupiset delivered the game's biggest hit with a two-run double to score Carson Smith and Hall for a 6-6 tie.

Chiefs relievers Riley Smith and Schremmer each worked two innings.
