DODGE CITY — The Kansas State High School Association directors found a way to stop the record-breaking Central Plains Oilers.

The Oilers left with the United Wireless Arena with tears streaming down their faces Thursday night. The Oilers' 93-47 victory over the Ingalls Bulldogs at the 1A state tournament extended the state's all-time winning streak to 136 games. Central Plains has swept a state record 42 consecutive postseason games and own a state-best 20-2 state tournament record.

But the Oilers will be unable to extend the streak when the KSHSAA directors canceled all six state championship sites Thursday because of escalating concerns over the COVID-19 virus.

As usual, the Oilers were spectacular on the state stage.

Record-breaker Emily Ryan broke the 3,000-point barrier with a layup off a perfect assist by Kassidy Nixon at the 5:50 mark of the second period.

"We're an unselfish basketball team," Nixon said. "It was fun to be part of state history and helping Emily achieve a goal like that."

Ryan passed the 700-assist mark in the first half and finished with five assists for 703 assists. Ryan had six steals to move to 599 career steals, first all-time. The Oilers led 71-18 when Ryan left the game.

The Oilers played nearly flawless offense for a 57-14 halftime lead. The Oilers passed out 19 assists on 22 of 33 field goal shooting. Ryan scored 16 first-half points and Lexi Oeser converted four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Ingalls Bulldog sharpshooter Regan Ast converted five 3-pointers, including a banked trey for 15 points. The Bulldogs scored a season high 43 points to break the previous high of 37 points by Phillipsburg.
