Great Bend’s Regional Champion
Great Bend’s Velocity Volleyball Club 11-2 team won the Heart of American Volleyball Regional Championship in Kansas City. Great Bend Velocity played Saturday without leading server and setter Jadynce Schroeder, who was ill. Coach Schroeder called an early morning meeting and informed the team that two of there teammates would not be with them and that some of them would be playing different positions.
“The team rallied to the challenge and amazingly never lost a set throughout pool play,” Schroeder said. “Girls were playing positions they had not played. Strong serving and a very positive attitude allowed the girls to enter day twos bracket play at the top seed. Jadynce returned for bracket play Sunday. The girls were nervous and having her back helped calm the nerves. Velocity defeated a very good “NPO” team in the championship to finish the tournament undefeated. Our girls never lost a set in the entire tournament.”
The Great Bend Velocity 11-2 finished with a 64-7 record ranked second out of 89 Heart of America teams in the 11 Select Division. Velocity captured six tournament titles.
