Panther boys sweep WAC bowling championship

Great Bend's boys capture the Western Athletic Conference bowling title. GARDEN CITY – Great Bend Panther Bryce Moore earned WAC Player of the Year honors and Great Bend coach Mike Perry was named WAC Boys Coach of the Year for the Western Athletic Conference bowling champions.

Moore won Thursday’s WAC Championship (714, 268-205-244) and posted the WAC’s high average of 216.8. Moore captured 5A state runner-up honors last year. 

WAC runner-up Jordan Black (202.4) posted the second high score (663, 159-257-247) to earn first-team honors. Third-place Cordell Stanley placed third (646, 244-236-168) to earn the seventh-best scoring average (194.8) to earn first-team honors.

Seventh-place Blake Sheets (193.4) and eighth-place A.J. Roberts (189.2) earned honorable mention honors.

Great Bend’s boys finished 7-2 in Baker format games. Garden City finished as Western Athletic Conference runner-up.

Garden City’s girls captured the Western Athletic Conference title and Great Bend finished runner-up.

Great Bend’s Paige Wagner earned first-team All-WAC honors (190.3) with the third-best average. Wagner posted the high series (615, 231-183-

201) to beat Garden City’s Camryn Lenz (569, 155-177-237).

Garden City’s Angelina Leeper posted the high average 193.2 and teammate Holly Bridges finished second (192.3).

Great Bend’s Sarah Mehlhaff finished with the ninth-best average

(155.1) and Lexy Fox placed 11th (153.1) to earn honorable mention All-WAC honors.

The Panthers upset Garden City in the Baker format 200-158 and

139-133 after losing the first game 170-167. The Panthers swept Liberal,158-103, 151-116 and 154-130. Great Bend beat Dodge City, 148-104, 144-142 and losing the second game 160-151.
