ARKANSAS CITY — Great Bend regional runner-up George Weber led eight Panthers into the 5A state wrestling tournament at Park City. 

No. 2 state-ranked George Weber lost 3-2 to Goddard's Jace Fisher in the regional championship match. Weber (40-2, 138) beat No. 6 Maize's Cayden Hughbanks 8-3 in the semifinals. 

In third-place matches, No. 6 Wyatt Weber pinned Maize's Patterson in 3:31; No. 5 Carsyn Schooler (31-9,  126) beat Valley Center's Alyues Craig on an injury; No. 3 Gage Fritz (40-3, 145) beat Arkansas City's Chris Robinson 3-2; No. 5 Jeffrey Spragis (30-11, 132) downed Goddard's Logan Davidson 2-1; and No. 5 Alex Randolph pinned Carroll's Kyler McGlachlin in 2:44.

No. 6 Wyatt Weber (33-11, 106) and Avery Wolf (22-18, 113) rallied in the consolation bracket for fifth place to give the Panthers eight state qualifiers.

Six Panthers met state-ranked wrestlers in the semifinals.

In the semifinal round, Fritz lost 6-0 to Goddard's No. 6 Cayleb Atkins; Schooler lost 8-2 to Salina Central's No. 3 Drew Burgoon; Spragis was pinned in 4:49 by Maize's No. 1 Aidan Campbell; .Randolph was pinned in 54 seconds by Goddard's No. 3 Nolan Craine; and Liles lost on an injury to Newton's No. 2 Grant Treaster.

Last year, Liles placed third; Schooler and Weber fifth and Fritz finished sixth at state.

Four-time defending 5A state champion Goddard and Arkansas City, last year’s 4A state champion, finished first and second.
