Two Panther swimmers win events

Panther golf places seventh at Hays.

Great Bend Panthers Ellis Long (200 IM, 2:34.59) and Will Linenberger (500 freestyle, 6:25.75) won individual events to highlight Tuesday’s Western Athletic Conference dual meet with Garden City. Garden City outscored the Panthers 100-62.

The Panthers finished runner-up in the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. 

The 200 free relay (1:44.95) competed with Beau Burkhart, Linenberger, Kasey Kennedy and Matthew Huslig. The 200 medley relay (1:51.85) competed with Tyler Stein, Long, Jacob Kennedy and Brody Feist. The 400 freestyle relay (3:48.61) competed with Huslig, Stein, Feist and Kasey Kennedy.

Other runner-up finishes were earned by Feist, 50 freestyle, 24.37; Stein, 100 backstroke, 59.17; Long, 100 breaststroke, 1:09.4; Kasey Kennedy, 100 butterfly, 1:03.25; Huslig, 200 freestyle, 1:55.4; Jacob Kennedy, 200 IM, Kennedy, 2:35.41.

Garden City swept the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Garden City’s Devin Chappel swept the 100 freestyle (51.37) and 200 freestyle (1:54.11), a state qualifying mark. Kobe Otero won the 100 backstroke (57.74), a state qualifying time.
