Wheatland Electric Cooperative Inc. (WEC) announced that Move Your Mountain Coaching & Consulting, founded by Kimberly Becker, has been awarded a $1,000 grant to help support the Grin Bin and Bright Spot Projects at The University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. Kimberly and her family were inspired to launch these initiatives after spending long days beside loved ones in the hospital and recognizing that while medical care meets physical needs, the emotional and mental toll of those experiences is often overlooked.

Through these efforts, they hope to bring light into difficult moments by offering simple, meaningful touches that restore dignity, ease stress, and remind patients and families that they are not alone on the journey of healing.

The grant will directly support two community-driven initiatives designed to bring comfort, hope, and joy to hospital patients. The Grin Bin Project provides a pediatric activity closet stocked with toys, games, books, and craft kits to help children manage fear, boredom, and stress during hospital stays. The Bright Spot Project offers activity and comfort bags to adult patients in the medical and surgical units, filled with journals, puzzles, fidget tools, and cozy items that uplift spirits. These community-driven projects not only enhance patient experiences and support holistic healing, but also strengthen bonds between the hospital, families, and the broader community—ensuring that healing in Great Bend is felt physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on Dec. 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have each contributed $15,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $195,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.

Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online at https://www.weci.net/sharing-success-program. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, director of member services & corporate communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
