Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announces that Jefferson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund. This grant will help bring new life to the school’s aging playground.
Jefferson Elementary’s playground isn’t just for recess; it’s a cornerstone of the neighborhood – serving students from kindergarten through sixth grade and doubling as a neighborhood gathering spot outside of school hours. The playground has seen generations of laughter and joyful memories. However, after more than 50 years of service, it’s time for an upgrade.
Jefferson PTO, along with the Student Council (STUCO), have already rolled up their sleeves, and raised nearly three-quarters of their ambitious $40,000 goal. Their sights are set on purchasing brand-new playground equipment this April, with installation planned for summer. Every dollar raised will help transform the play space, making it safer, more fun, and accessible for all. 100% of contributions go directly toward the new playground equipment. To make a tax-deductible donation, please contact the Jefferson PTO at JeffersonPTO428@gmail.com. Playgrounds are more than just slides and swings — they’re where friendships are built and imaginations soar.
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on Dec. 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $10,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $165,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online at https://www.weci.net/sharing-success-program. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, Director of Member Services & Corporate Communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
