There is a new and exciting buzz at Beugelsdijk Chiropractic that is making a noticeable impact for many trying to manage pain. At the start of 2025, Dr. Sam Beugelsdijk made the decision to bring in a new technology to Great Bend that is already making a name for itself - StemWave. “I’m thrilled to bring in this addition to our office and to our community,’ Dr. Beugelsdijk said when describing StemWave’s advanced technology for pain and inflammation. “This is something that many doctors around the country are incorporating into their practice with outstanding results. Even several professional and college sports teams are using StemWave to help their athletes recover quicker from injuries. I’m just really excited with the results that we’re seeing already.”

StemWave - The Missing Piece

StemWave utilizes cellular response technology with extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), the gold standard in musculoskeletal treatment. This non-invasive therapy is designed to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, increase blood supply, and improve range of motion, making it ideal for a variety of conditions. StemWave is a regenerative medicine technique that utilizes harmless, yet powerful acoustic waves to activate your body’s natural healing mechanisms. As a safe non-invasive option, it doesn’t require any downtime and has minimal to no side-effects. Patients experience significant reduction in pain levels, even after only one session. StemWave is particularly effective for treating:

• Joint Pain Relief: Knee, Shoulder, Elbow, Ankle, TMJ

• Soft Tissue Pain Relief: Muscles, Ligaments, Tendons

• Chronic Pain Relief: Back, Nerves, Discs, Joints

• Surgery Alternative: Back, Knee, Hand, Foot, Shoulder

• Injection Alternative: Stem Cells, PRP, Cortisone, etc

Treatment Process

During the initial visit following a thorough history and examination, Dr. Beugelsdijk will use the StemWave applicator head to scan over areas of pain. Ultrasound transmission gel is applied to the surface area with no anesthesia or numbing creams required. Through the StemWave applicator head, several focused therapeutic waves are absorbed by the body. “The technology of StemWave allows us to quickly identify areas of tissue inflammation making our treatments extremely precise and efficient. Patients also provide us with their feedback of where they feel more sensitivity. This combination of machine and patient-driven biofeedback is a vital part in developing a treatment plan.” One can expect the initial mapping visit to last 20 minutes, but subsequent treatments for most only take between three to eight minutes, depending on the severity and type of the condition.

“Over the course of care, patients will begin to notice an improvement in their day-to-day pain. This is because StemWave is able to reduce inflammation that for many has been nagging them for a long time.” Care plans commonly range between six to eight sessions, but more chronic cases may require additional treatments - as many as 12 to 14 visits. “I’ve witnessed patients see a noticeable difference after their first treatment. Most experience a significant improvement after only three to four treatments.” Subsequent treatments followed on a specific recommended schedule will offer continual improvement and sustained results.

Biological Reactions

The treatment initiates three key biological reactions:

• Angiogenesis phase: the formation of new blood vessels, enhancing blood flow both short-term and long-term.

• Cell Proliferation phase: the generation phase of new cells and recruitment of cytokines to release growth factors for healing.

• Inflammatory phase: helps jump-start the healing process, while chronic inflammation is reduced for long-term recovery.

Immediate Benefits

Patients often experience a reduction in pain immediately after their first visit. “The patient’s feedback is a strong indicator that they are a good candidate for StemWave therapy. Not only do patients feel the difference right away, but they can often see the difference in how they move. It’s exciting and satisfying for both the patient and myself.” StemWave boasts an impressive success rate, with 85-95% improvement observed across entire care plans.
