State health department continues to monitor COVID

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment released its weekly COVID-19 statistics Friday afternoon. 

There have been 773,796 cases from 105 counties, as of 9 a.m. Friday. There have been 8,597 COVID-related deaths reported. There were 196 new cases as of April 18.

Here are the totals for area counties, with any change from April 15:

• Barton 6,494 (+3)

• Ellsworth 2,014

• Pawnee 2,118 (+2)

• Rice 2,611

• Rush 807

• Russell 1,878 (-1)

• Stafford 1,137 (+1)

These counties, with the exception of Pawnee,  were also listed as having a low transmission rate from April 11-17.  Pawnee County showed a moderate transmission rate, with a weekly cumulate incidence rate of 15.6 per 100,000 people. Ten or fewer cases per 100,000 signified a low transmission rate.
