Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July tomorrow. May you have a fun day filled with barbecue and fireworks, and may you make it to the 5th with all your digits and eyebrows intact. As a reminder, the library will be closed for the holiday, so we can also enjoy the festivities (hey, we like to blow up stuff, too). We will reopen on Saturday, July 5, for normal business hours.

We took a short break from programming this week, but we are back in full swing starting Tuesday. At 10:30 a.m., join us for Story Time. For those a bit too old for Story Time but not old enough to attend teen events, we also have Tween Scene Studio from 10:30-11:15 a.m. This week, it’s Tween Manga & Anime club. Tweens going into grades 3-5 can see what this popular program usually reserved for teens is all about. We will be discussing and watching “Chi’s Sweet Home” by Konami Kanata. We also have Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m., followed by the monthly Writing Club at 5:30 p.m.

For next week’s Wonder-Filled Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., we will be getting a visit from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Join Chomps, the KWEC Painted Turtle, at this event where nature and creativity come together. Explore the colorful world of Cheyenne Bottoms through stories and nature art projects, and even meet some live animals!

In addition to our regular Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., check out this month’s Adult Craft at 7 p.m. Try out the latest craze, diamond painting, and make your own mini bedazzled keychain.

Are you a local writer or artist? The deadline to submit to our new publication, put together by our own Writing Club, is almost here. The theme for our first edition of this zine is “Summer Bucket List.” Send us your works, based in reality or fantasy, featuring anything from exciting adventures to the quiet, simple moments we treasure during this season. Visit our website and fill out the form by July 7 for the chance to have your piece featured!
