Final Summer Reading Programs are full of fun!

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Sadly, we have only one more week of our Summer Reading Program left, but we’ve packed it full of fun programs!

Are you a visual planner? Do you find yourself leaving notes to yourself all over the place trying to remember how you’re balancing school, work, hobbies, important dates, and just life in general? Learn the basics of bullet journaling, a method created “to help you track the past, organize the present, and plan for the future.” Teens and adults can join us Saturday, July 24, at 11 a.m., and we’ll help you set up your first month, themed after your pet or favorite animal!

Next week for kids’ events we have our Safari Story Time at 10:30 a.m. On Thursday, travel across the vast oceans of the world with us during our Around the World Adventure at 10:30 a.m.

On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Mandy Kern from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center and author of “Ava: A Year of Adventure in the Life of an American Avocet” will be here to read from her book. Listeners of all ages can come to hear the story of Ava the American Avocet, a breed of shorebird who makes the amazing 1,000 mile journey from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to Cheyenne Bottoms right here in Great Bend! We will also have fun activities for participants, and all families in attendance will receive free copies of the book.

For teens grades 6-12, stop by the Teen Spot on Monday to pick up a Grow Your Own Geode Crystal Take & Make kit (available while supplies last). On Thursday at 6:30 p.m. teens ages 13 and up can tune into the Teen Spot Discord server to watch an episode of a random anime decided on by popular vote. To join the server, use the code @gbmanga in the Remind app or on remind.com, or text the code to 81010 (standard message rates apply).

On Tuesday at 7 p.m. for teens and adults we’ll be hosting our After Hours Video Game Night. Put your driving skills to the test against friendly competition while we play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

As the Summer Reading Program wraps up, be sure to get your reading minutes in by the end of the month for a chance to earn some prizes!
