Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s officially spooky season, and we have some exciting events coming up this week to get you in the spirit of the month.
Today after Genealogy Corner at 11 a.m., we have Delicious Dishes with Lisa at 6 p.m. We’re traveling back in time with some retro recipes!
Friday, get ready to travel to the land of the dead as you fight like a luchador for the fate of the world during this month’s Casual Game Friday for teens grades 6-12. Don your mask and get ready for Guacamelee!, a Metroidvania-style action-platformer set in a magical world inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. Then at 7 p.m., adults get ready for an out-of-this-world horror movie that will have you wishing you brought a spare pair of underwear. “Space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life-form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station (Google).”
Calling all fans of “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Files”! Paranormal investigator Amanda discusses ghost hunting and shares her experiences in the field, both locally and elsewhere, on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m.
Next Monday, what could be more terrifying than books being banned?! Show everyone that you read dangerously with your own custom Banned Book Button. Button making will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and again from 2-3 p.m. for all ages.
Tuesday is another full day. Though we do not have Baby Bounce Story Time this week, we do have a special event for all children at 10:30 a.m. October is Fire Prevention Month, and members of the Great Bend Fire Department will be with us for Story Time to read a book and talk about fire safety. Children will be able to see real fire equipment up close and ask questions about being a firefighter!
Our regular Genealogy Thursday is also today at 11 a.m.
For this month’s Teen Café, make some satisfying Pizza Slime to play with (and if you try a bite, we won’t tell anyone)! We will also serve coffee and hot cocoa as usual from 4-5:30 p.m.
Wednesday starts off with our next Digital Literacy Class. We are covering Internet safety, so grab your lunch and join us from noon to 1 p.m. for a lunchtime lesson. Wednesday is also our next Tweentober event. Too old for story time but not quite a teen yet? Get a chance to hang out in the Teen Spot this October! Each Wednesday, we will have a different teen program for tweens in grades 3-5 to try out. This time we are going to try out our teen program, Builders Assemble! LEGO Waterworks Challenge. Can you build the best water-tight LEGO design?
Lastly, Thursday, Oct. 9, in addition to Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., we have an exciting Adult Craft this month, perfect to get you into the holiday spirit. Join us at 6 p.m. to turn ordinary bottles into beautiful glass pumpkins.
