Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Today, Oct. 23, after Genealogy Corner at 11 a.m., it’s the teens’ turn to have a ghoulish good time with CreativiTeens. Design and assemble spooky ghost garlands and use air-dry clay and paint to craft a fun piece inspired by Victoria Ashley’s ghost sculptures. After that, Barton Community College will be here at 6 p.m. to teach a Keyboarding Basics Class. Boost your typing skills by learning proper finger placement, posture, and techniques to improve your speed and accuracy. This class is great for beginners or anyone wanting to build efficient typing habits for school, work, or personal use. And, like all events at the library, it’s 100% free!
Friday from 3:45 -7:15 p.m., we have our next installment of this semester’s Tabletop Teens D&D Miniseries. In the last session we answered a call for help from an unknown crew member trapped in a room with a dragon. This time, let’s see if our spacefaring adventurers can make it through an epic space battle with their ship intact! Our table is full, but any teens who would like to watch the action unfold can join as part of our audience.
Don’t forget to stop by and browse our fall Friends of the Library Book Sale, open during regular business hours. Friday and Saturday are both bag days, which means you can make a donation and fill up a bag with books, movies, puzzles, and more to take home to add to your personal collection.
Next week it’s time for another Monday Crafternoon. Each month, kids ages 6-12 can join us from 4-5 p.m. for a fun-filled afternoon of learning a new artistic skill. This month, we will be making yarn monsters.
Tuesday is another full day, starting off with our much-anticipated Halloween Carnival at 10:30 a.m. We will have games to play and win treats and prizes. Come dressed in your Halloween finest! Shortly after that starts, bring your tech questions to the Reference Desk for Tech Tuesday, starting at 11 a.m. Later, at 5:30 p.m., we have our final Writing Club meeting before Novelvember kicks off
Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. we have our final Tweentober event. Too old for story time but not quite a teen yet? Get a chance to hang out in the Teen Spot this October! Each Wednesday, we will have a different teen program for tweens in grades 3-5 to try out. This time, check out the Tween Manga & Anime Club, where we will discuss the Pokémon manga, watch an episode of the anime, and learn how to play the card game. If you would like to join in on the discussion, copies of the manga are still available at the front desk.
Last but not least, next Thursday after Genealogy Corner at 11 a.m., join us at Dry Lake Brewing for our latest Trivia Night. Be prepared to travel to the upside-down for Stranger Things Trivia. We will be quizzing participants on everything to do with this smash hit love letter to ’80s horror. Compete for free drinks and fabulous prizes!
