Library staff are busy – inside and out

The Nora Larabee Library in Stafford has new books for its children’s collection.

STAFFORD — Thank Goodness for the cool down this week! Watching Sunday Morning on CBS as I am writing this, the show showed many beautiful outdoor spaces and the increased interest in enjoying being outside.

This is the week to walk outside & take a look around your space and the community’s outdoor spaces. Do you like what you see? The city has worked hard to perk up parks, paint murals, repurpose and improve city owned buildings. The city pool makes me smile with its beauty and activity. What a treasure for our community.

Look around your own space. Are you happy with how it looks? This is the week to get busy making it better. I realize we haven’t hit the powerball here at Stafford, but just investing some elbow grease is free. Jeff and I are really physically not able to do many projects, so thanks to a son and grandson our place is looking more trim. What if you don’t have family to help? Contact the school. Every graduate of Stafford schools has to have 40 hours of community service to graduate.

Have you looked at the Library’s Outdoor Reach to the community? Everyday when I walk up to the door I think Wow! It looks like somebody cares! It welcomes me right in. This week the Building Committee, city crew, and local contractors have put in a beautiful flag pole in memory of Tim Dye. A new lamp post is being installed and the library sign has been readied for its re-entry to the front lawn. A “Secret Weed Fairy” pulled the weeds on the ramp. Thank You! The building committee is determined to keep this treasure looking good for generations to come. Painting and restoring the outdoor trim is the next big step.

We’re busy inside, too. This week we hope to have a crowd on Tuesday to get information on how to prevent falls. Jennifer Gleason has made this her mission and would like to help you feel more confident in navigating your surroundings. The meeting from 3-4 p.m. will be an introductory and informational afternoon to develop skills to prevent falls.

At 5:30 Tuesday we have our monthly Recently Read book conversation that everyone is invited to contribute to. It is a fun and relaxing time. New books are arriving every day and they are exciting to share!

Enjoy the outdoors this week. Maybe we’ll have one of those long nice autumns.
