Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Happy Spring Break! While the week is half over, we still have some fun events left for you this week. Join us all day Thursday the 19th, to help create representations of our prehistoric past. Make volcanoes, dinosaur bones, and more that will be used to help decorate the library for this year’s Summer Library Program, “Unearth a Story.”

Have genealogy questions? Bring them to the Reference desk during Genealogy Thursday today at 11 am. Come back in the evening for Manga and Anime Club. For March’s club meeting, we’ll be covering “Yowamushi Pedal” by Wataru Watanabe. “Sakamichi Onoda is a cheerful otaku looking to join his new school’s anime club, eager to finally make some friends. Unfortunately, the club has been disbanded and he takes it upon himself to revive it by finding students who are willing to join. Without much luck, Onoda decides to make a round trip to Akihabara on his old, bulky city bicycle, a weekly 90-kilometer ride he has been completing since fourth grade. This is when he meets fellow first year student, Shunsuke Imaizumi, a determined cyclist who is using the school’s steep incline for practice. Surprised by Onoda’s ability to climb the hill with his specific type of bicycle, Imaizumi challenges him to a race, with the proposition of joining the anime club should Onoda win. And thus begins the young boy’s first foray into the world of high school bicycle racing (MyAnimeList)!” Afterwards, get ready for a chopsticks relay race! Copies of April’s title will be available for pickup.

On Friday we have two movies to show. First is the Friday Fantasy Feature at 10:30 a.m., which is open to all ages. The film follows Roz, a robot who finds herself lost on an island filled with danger. To survive the harsh environment, Roz befriends the island’s animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. The film is based on the popular children’s book “The Wild Robot.” That same afternoon at 3 p.m., we have a spring scare in store for you with our Teen Friday Flick. “When Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”- (description by Swank)

It’s a typical Tuesday, starting with Early Literacy Story Time at 10:30 a.m. This is an active time for little learners featuring early literacy skills, picture books, finger plays, songs, rhymes, music, art, and movement.

Do you have specific tech questions about your computer or phone? We can help! Bring your device by the Reference Desk starting at 11 a.m. for Tech Tuesday.

Wednesday is our last Tween Scene of the month. This time, tweens in grades 3-5 can check out Table Top Tweens, sit down, and try some tabletop games with us.

Next Thursday evening, check out our new Travelogue Series where our Librarian Erin will tell you all about her experience in Japan.
