Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s trivia time, Swifties! Join us at 7 p.m. tonight (Feb. 26) at Dry Lake Brewing for Taylor Swift Trivia. After all, it’s post Valentine’s Day, so what better time to celebrate Taylor? Before trivia, why not stop in at the library for Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m? Who knows, maybe you’re a third cousin twice removed Swift yourself. Only one way to find out!
Usher in March next Monday, March 2, with our latest Spice of the Month. Come in and get yours while they last! Monday also marks the start of Talking Books Week. Come to the library to see our display on the history of Talking Books and find out more about the program. We have a plethora of information, and you can even pick up an application. Don’t forget, Talking Books is not just for the blind; any resident of Kansas with a permanent or temporary condition that impedes their ability to read print books can qualify. Help us celebrate this amazing free program all week long.
On Tuesday, along with our regular lineup of Early Literacy Story Time at 10:30 a.m. and Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m., we have Teen Café at 4 p.m. Work as a team to create elaborate chain reactions with Kinetic Dominoes using arcs, spinners, bridges, and more, all while you enjoy coffee and cocoa.
On Wednesday, we will be bringing the same kinetic fun to a slightly younger audience for Tween Scene. Those in grades 3-5 can enjoy a taste of teen programming Wednesdays this March. Each week, we will have a different activity to try.
Tweens and teens can register starting Wednesday for our new fiber arts-based club. If you’ve been enjoying our crochet projects and want to try something new, join the Crafty Cross Stitch Club. No experience is necessary.
During the introductory lesson on April 1, we will learn the basics of cross stitch and get started on making Hello Kitty and her friends, who have never been cuter! This all-in-one kit includes everything you need to create embroidered cross-stitch crafts of Hello Kitty, My Melody, Keroppi, and Kuromi. After the first meeting, we invite you to come back at the same time in the next couple of weeks to finish your projects. Staff will be available to help. Kits are limited, so sign up next week to reserve yours at greatbendpl.info.
In addition to our regular Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m. next week, we also have Delicious Dishes at 6 p.m. Join Lisa, our resident chef, as she demonstrates a new and tasty recipe. You never know what fun surprises she will teach you next.
If you’re a teen with Library Loot to spend, make sure to come in before the end of the month to stock up on goodies from our winter prize store. After Saturday, Feb. 28, the store won’t return until September.
Hannah Glass is outreach manager at the Great Bend Public Library. To see what else they are up to at the library, stop by and grab the winter newsletter or check Facebook and Instagram @greatbendpl, email gbcirc@gmail.com, or call at 620-792-2409 with any questions about programming or services.
