K-9s indicate drugs in two vehicles

Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark released the following information on two arrests from the past week.

On Wednesday, Jan. 28, around 11:37 a.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department were advised of a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the 1000 block of Washington St. It was reported the vehicle that fled was a red Jeep Liberty with front-end damage. While on patrol, a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle matching that description at Casey’s General Store, 1315 10th St.

Officers arrived and began speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, identified as Jessy Eilers, age 44, and Jessica Love, age 42. While speaking with Eilers and Love, BCSO K9 Rem was deployed for a free-air sniff of the Jeep. After a positive alert, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly located methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Eilers was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and duty to give information after an accident. Love was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interference with law enforcement.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, at approximately 9:34 p.m., a GBPD officer stopped a gray Volkswagen Jetta in the 3500 block of 10th St. for an alleged traffic infraction. Contact was made with the driver, Tricia Viegra, age 54, and passenger Roy Robinson, age 48. During the stop, K9 Neo was deployed for a free-air sniff of the vehicle, subsequently indicating to the odor of narcotics. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located on Viegra, and Robinson was found to be in possession of marijuana. Viegra was arrested for distribution of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and traffic charges. Viegra and Robinson were both transported to the Barton County Jail and booked in lieu of bond.
