A motorcyclist from St. John had what appeared to be serious injuries Monday, June 16, afternoon after a Ford Ranger turned in front of him on U.S. 281 in Stafford County. The other driver had no apparent injuries. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 12:42 p.m. at milepost 79, north of the intersection of U.S. 281 and 5th Ave. A 2019 Ford Ranger driven by David Wayne Peevyhouse, 63, St. John, was traveling north and started to make a left-hand turn into a parking lot at 329 North U.S. 281. He turned in front of a 2007 Harley-Davidson Heritage motorcycle driven by William J. Norris, 68, also of St. John, causing the motorcycle to strike the truck. Norris was taken to the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash, and Peevyhouse was wearing a seat belt.
KHP also responded to an injury accident in Edwards County at 11:54 a.m. Monday. A GMC Canyon driven by Ross T. Wolfe, 59, Kinsley, was traveling south on 180th Ave. coming out of Lewis and failed to yield to a 2009 Saturn driven by Baltazar R. Morales, 36, from Booker, Texas, who was traveling east on U.S. 50. Wolfe was taken to the Edwards County Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Morales was taken to the Edwards County Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
