Great Bend Police received a report Monday that an elderly person was being physically abused and confined to a local residence. The investigation led to the arrest of Dallas Mills, 27, who was charged with elder abuse and other crimes.

Police Chief Steve Haulmark issued a news release on Tuesday, noting a report was filed with GBPD officers around 2:35 p.m. on April 21, alleging “mistreatment of a dependent adult/ elder person and criminal threats.”

Officers and detectives gathered information about where the suspect was residing and a search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 1700 block of Morton St. The warrant was executed at 6:30 p.m. and Mills was located and placed under arrest.

“During a subsequent search of the residence for relevant evidence, multiple firearms were located,” the news release states. “Mills is a convicted felon for previous violent crimes, and by state law, he is prohibited from being in possession of firearms. Marijuana and paraphernalia were also located inside the residence. Mills was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of $50,000 bond.”
