KANSAS CITY, Mo.  — Alfred Zimmerman, Jr., 79, of the Kansas City Northland, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2020, at his home with family at his side.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 9:30-10:45 am Friday, May 29, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty. Rosary and services will follow the visitation for family members. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Wounded Warriors or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Al was born November 10, 1940, in Hays, KS, the third of six children of Alfred and Clementine “Dena” (Pfeifer) Zimmerman. He graduated from Great Bend, KS High School in 1958. Al served in the US Navy as an Aerial Photographer, was a Rifle and Pistol expert, and served as a Seabee. He received honorable discharge on March 1, 1963. Al later received his Bachelor’s degree at Fort Hays State University in 1967.

Al was employed at Phillips Petroleum, worked in Industrial Equipment sales, and owned a motel complex before he received his Missouri and Kansas real estate broker’s licenses in 1992. He worked in the residential and commercial real estate industry, eventually owning Flex Realty in the Kansas City Northland until retirement in 2017.

Al was a lifelong Catholic, and member of St. James parish in Liberty, MO. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Along with his parents, Al was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Zimmerman, and sister, Dorothy Taylor.

Al was united in marriage to Emma Rae Ayers on March 24, 1962, in Hays, KS. His wife of 58 years survives him. Other family members include his sons, Brian Zimmerman (Kim) and Bradley Zimmerman (April); grandchildren, Austin Zimmerman, Kaitlyn Jackson (Alex), Sierra Hegarty, Marissa Zimmerman and Jacklyn Zimmerman; siblings, Larry Zimmerman, Dolores Gordon and Paul Zimmerman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
