OTIS — Charles Lynn Batman, 84, passed away on Jan. 29, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Blue Eye, Mo. He was born on Feb. 24, 1941, in Great Bend, Kan., to Ralph Ermin and Martha Frances (Brown) Batman. Charles married Martha Louise McAdoo on April 1, 1960, in Russell, Kan. She passed on Jan. 31, 2022.  

A life-time area resident in Barton, Russell, and Rush counties, Charles was the head of security for Barton Community College for 15 years. During his younger years, he served in the Army National Guard from 1961-1967. Charles enjoyed walleye fishing, hunting, collecting artifacts – particularly Native American artifacts, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include daughter, Shelly (Chuck) Nelson of Blue Eye, Mo.; son, Brian (Cindy) Batman of Great Bend, Kan.; six grandchildren, Jessica Berg, Melissa Berg (Matt), Charlie (Shelby) Nelson, Joshua (Caitlin) Nelson, Sam (Anna) Nelson, Zach (Anna) Nelson; 17 great grandchildren, Maddyson, Havyn, Shaili, Triston, Taybree, Kirstyn, Mason, Maddux, Hayden, Hallie, Braydon, Kailyn, Ryker, Talynn, Theo, Claire, and Jamie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Ralph Batman and Elmo Batman; and two sisters, Frieda Ilene Orr and LaWanda Mae Farrell.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Gray presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
