Dora Jean “Jeanie” Gregory

Dora Jean “Jeanie” Gregory, 88, passed away June 8, 2024, at Azria Health in Great Bend, Kan. She was the youngest daughter born April 19, 1936, to George L. and Frances (Koelsch) Whitsel in Great Bend, Kan. 

She married George A. Hejny Aug. 4, 1953. They later divorced. On May 14, 1973, she married Donald McEachern later Nathan Gregory. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and everyone’s Aunt Jeanie. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, helping people and her old birthday club. She was a member of Harts Corner Missionary Baptist Church. She was a housewife and later worked as a Certified Med Aide for The Manor in Great Bend. 

She is survived by her children, Douglas A. Hejny of Great Bend, daughter, Georgina Cartmill (Howard) of Dighton, Kan., Daniel L. Hejny (Jenny) of McCamey, Texas, Robert D. Hejny, and Christopher E. McEachern both of Great Bend, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents; four infant sons; three brothers, George, Melvin, and Franklin Whitsel; six sisters, Meda Rankin, Edna Mae Whitsel, Jody Young, Sue Suchy, Lillian Claphan, and Norma Smith.

Jeanie’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Brozek, Elise Snapp, ARNP and staff, as well as the staff at Azria Health Center and Gentiva Hospice for all their love and care during her last years. 

She was a loving, precious child of God.

Memorial Service will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with Reverend Dick Ogle presiding. Inurnment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Visitation will be held 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2024, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Memorials will be given to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
