Higinio Lozano ‘Art’ Payan, 70, passed away Jan. 25, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health Systems ER, Great Bend, Kan. He was born on Jan. 11, 1956, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Francisco Payan and Teodora Lozano. On Jan. 1, 1989, he married Donetta Herschberger in Columbus, Neb. She passed on June 14, 2007.
A resident of Great Bend since 1983, Art worked in many fields, from construction, the oilfield, and most recently with United Ag Service Co-Op in Galatia. He was an arborist – having planted many different types of trees and enjoyed fishing. Art always had his “babies” and enjoyed taking them for ice cream, to the park, to and from school, and that was the highlight of his day.
Survivors include brothers, Francisco Payan Lozano, Teodoro Payan Lozano, and Amalio Payan Lozano; sisters, Maria del Refugio Payan Lozano, Sara Payan Lozano, Angela Payan Lozano, and Aurelia Payan Lozano; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; family friend, Michelle Brohaugh; and honorary grandchildren, Tamberlyn Robinson, Breckyn Burns, Briella Hapes, Danton Hapes, and Aiden Brohaugh. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Carrie Lynn, Payan; brothers, Benjamin Payan Lozano and Daniel Payan Lozano; and sisters, Adela Payan Lozano and Elodia Payan Lozano.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home.
