LARNED — Jay Lawrence Giessel, 69, passed away March 1, 2025 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born April 13, 1955 at Larned, the son of John Jacob and Inez Leona Birzer Giessel. A lifetime area resident he was a farmer and of the Christian faith, served on the Soil Conservation board, the Golden Valley COOP board for several years and was a member of the Kansas Sport Hunting Association. He was owner and operator of Cocklebur Creek guided hunting for over 20 years. Jay was a pioneer for the no till farming in the Plains, attending and speaking at several events. He was a true steward of the land and wildlife.
On May 2, 2021 he remarried Merilee Elaine Galliart in Larned, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include, two daughters, Lynn Rene (Kelly) Wright, Johnson and Cari Georgeanne (Sam) Beauchamp, Spearman, Texas; two step-children, James S. (Bridget) Hook, Wichita and Amanda E. (Andrew) LeRoy, Rhome, Texas; a brother, Tom (Sheryl) Giessel, Larned and a sister, Madalene (Sandy) Miller, Nacogdoches, Texas; two grandchildren, Elli and Aspen and four step-grandchildren, Landon, Ava, Lorelai and Alethia. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dr. Michael Giessel; and his grandson and fishing buddy Ike.
Graveside Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2025 at Larned Cemetery with Alan Mead presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.
