Larry David Foss, 83, passed away Sept. 6, 2025, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. He was born Oct. 1, 1941, in Wichita, to Donald C. and Alice G. (Westerhaus) Foss. David married the love of his life, Dana Ruth (Orr) Kaiser Oct. 3, 1981, in Great Bend. She passed away Oct. 6, 2023.
David, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash., proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-1967, earning a National Defense Service Medal and in 2018, receiving a Quilt of Valor. He was a longtime resident of Great Bend, working many years for Midwest Energy, retiring in 2006. He previously worked for Wells Thompson Furniture and Gibson Titus and Stafford.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Knights of Columbus Council 862, BCC Booster Club, Lake Barton Golf Club, and was a 2022 BCC Hall of Fame inductee. He enjoyed his morning coffee club, all KU and BCC athletics, an “occasional” Pepsi, playing Kansas Cash Lotto, and his Texas trips with many slot machine excursions along the way. Above all, he cherished his time in the bleachers, cheering on his many grandkids, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include one stepson, Doug Kaiser (Michelle) and one stepdaughter, Lori Crowther (Alan) all of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Chris Kaiser (Sarah), Kyle Kaiser, Brice Kaiser, Cal Kaiser, Allyson Kaiser and Cody Crowther (Kristin); five great-grandchildren, Coleman Crowther, Conrad Crowther, Campbell Crowther, Anastyn Kaiser, and Wesley Kaiser; one brother, Dr. Dan Foss (Patty) of Hutchinson, Kan.; two sisters, Jane Smith of Great Bend and Jean Horton (Bill) of Boston, Mass.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife; granddaughter, Alexis Crowther; nephew, Tyler Foss; brother, Richard Foss; and brother-in-law, Roland L. “Smitty” Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., and a Vigil at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home.
