Melanie Wear was born on July 15, 1967, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Barbara Wear. She passed away on June 3, 2025, in Great Bend. 

Melanie lived in Great Bend as a young child until her mother married Bill Abrahamson, and they moved to Offerle, Kan., then Kinsley, Kan. After Melanie graduated from Kinlsey High School, she returned to Great Bend, where she lived with her grandmother and worked as an aide at a nursing home. She then moved into the Great Bend High Rise and later lived in Cherry Village. 

Melanie enjoyed painting and giving gifts of her efforts to her friends and neighbors. She also loved dogs, watching movies on TV and especially loved her family and friends.

She is survived by three aunts, Bonnie Jamieson, Berdyna Proctor, and Belynda Simbala; one uncle, Byrl Wear; and 14 cousins. Melanie is preceded in death by her mother; stepfather; grandparents, Bernard and Esther Wear; and two aunts, Betty Naylor and Beverly Thoreson.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials have been designated to the Melanie Wear Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

She will be missed.
