Melbra James Leo ‘Mel’ Orr

Melbra James Leo ‘Mel’ Orr, 28, passed away Feb. 12, 2026, at his home in Great Bend, Kan. He was born on Dec. 28, 1997, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Brian Douglas Orr and Chele Cay Bryant.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Mel was a cherished member of the Rosewood Services family, where he worked in their recycling center disassembling electronics and found deep belonging among his friends and the dedicated staff.

Mel had a remarkably big heart—he was friendly, welcoming, and would do anything for his friends. He never met a stranger and brought warmth, smiles, and kindness to everyone he encountered.

He truly loved music, listening with enthusiasm and letting it brighten his days. As an active member of the Rosewood Miracle Workers Aktion Club, he eagerly participated in community activities and service projects that gave back to others. Mel also cherished time outdoors, enjoying fishing and peaceful moments like watching the geese at Veterans Memorial Park. In recent years, he became a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, cheering them on with all his energy and passion.

Survivors include his many dear friends and the staff of Rosewood Services, who became his true family and will carry his joyful spirit forward.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026 at Rosewood Memorial Garden, 384 N. Washington Ave., Great Bend.
