Ruth Evelyn Lowry

Ruth Evelyn Lowry, 93, passed away Oct. 14, 2020, at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on Jan. 12, 1927, at Durant, Okla., to William A. and Ruby (Canon) Carter. She married Ray J. Brakebill in June 1948, at Great Bend. He died in 1977. She then married Elmo H. Lowry on March 8, 1979, in Wichita. He died Nov. 29, 2005. 

Coming from Wichita in 1974, Ruth was a long-time teacher, teaching in Kalvesta, Wichita and Great Bend before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, having served on various committees, N.E.A., R.S.V.P., and the Progress Club.  

Survivors include, a sister, Lois Parker of Claremont, Calif.; and a step daughter, Joyce Jackson of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ray J. Brakebill and Elmo H. Lowry; four brothers, Emmett Carter, James Carter, Reginald Carter, and Charles Wayne Carter; a sister, Louise Pelayo; and a stepson, Duane Lowry. 

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Morita Truman presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
