Council corrects course on solar regs
Public Forum.jpg

To the Editor:

The recent 5-2 decision by the Great Bend city council to adopt the regulations regarding construction of a solar energy project, similar to the Barton County regulations, displays a willingness to recognize their misguided previous decision to adopt no regulations. I believe a number of calls to council members, along with letters to the editor, may have contributed to the council’s reversal. I wrote critically of the council’s previous decision. While I personally favor the environmentally-friendly guidelines of a five- mile limit for any solar energy construction – a restriction favored by birders, hunters, and environmental non-governmental as well as governmental organizations – I write approvingly of the council’s decision to reverse course to at least approve the two mile limit, along with the 1000 foot residential property limit.

I wish that our national representatives possessed the same character as our local representatives. They displayed a character which owns misguided policies, and then initiates new ones rather than wait for political winds to activate a political opportunism which seems the moral compass guiding the direction by far too many our congress people and senators. Thank you, Great Bend City council.
