Dear Kansas:
One of, not the only by far, my biggest pet peeves is when people say we’re primates. I see what Charles Darwin was saying, humans and primates are similar by DNA, physical and behavior characteristics, but similar is not the same. Humans share a wide variety of similarities with a wide variety of species, we did not evolve from primates, we are not primates.
When I look at Darwin I don’t see a confident naturalist, I see a psycho that wanted so much to portray humans as less intelligent and more harmless than we really are. And it’s wasn’t only Darwin or the “scientists” that fabricate evidence linking humans to evolution, it’s all the followers too.
I often think of evolution when remembering a visit to the Great Bend Zoo. What a cruel and inhumane experience. I remember a black panther jumping on a tiny shelter in a tiny enclosure to escape the heat from the pavement and water from a hose laying on the cement in the full sun that must have been boiling and he was forced to drink it. No grass, no trees, no shade, no food, no decency toward another living being, and people who buy into evolution believe we can do no better than that. The lions, again sitting in the sun and I shuttered to think about their winter; it’s just deplorable.
The Kansas City Zoo during a class trip I looked into the eyes of a gorilla thinking I could relate to him and let him know that I would free him one day; little did I know it would take decades and he wouldn’t live to see it and I definitely missed the memo that you’re not supposed to make eye contact with primates. That gorilla charged the bulletproof glass to scare my friend Jessie as she drew his image while sitting on the floor.
We communicate with language, thoughts, conversation, but not primates. Primates can go a little ways with intelligence, especially chimps, but so do dolphins in their own habitat. Species were placed on this earth, or appeared spontaneously, possessing the traits necessary to survive. They did not evolve these traits or else they wouldn’t have survived past the first night.
This past Saturday was a scary time for me. It was an environmental alert that humans have finally outdumbed themselves. I know outdumbed is not a word but if evolution conspiracy theorists can make up stuff so can I. Record heat across the Midwest and beyond, Phoenix for example reaching 102°, in March, then today freezing temperatures and last week a few days before the temperature spike, snow can you believe it?
Humans are smart enough to know that we are not apes not even close. But what humans fail to do is admit that we are smart enough to cause climate change.
Climate change has been attributed to ozone depletion by chlorofluorocarbons; however, chlorofluorocarbons have never existed in the ozone layer. It’s just another diversion tactic to continue climate change.
Three things humans have over any other species which separates us from all species, making humans the only species in our order, are cognition, exploration and civilization. Cognition because we can think outside ourselves and our own needs for survival. Exploration because we build the vehicles and concepts that allow us to travel beyond boundaries blurring imagination and reality. And civilization, which encompasses all species on earth blending what we need and what allows us to thrive with what the earth needs from us. If we don’t recognize the harm we’ve done, the responsibility we have to repair it as well as our spatial reasoning, awareness of ourselves towards each other and the environment that allows us to repair mistakes, life on earth will go extinct and I won’t be around to say I told you so, no one will. Thank you.
