Name calling, innuendo and judgment

To the editor:

There is an old adage that if you don’t want to start an argument, don’t start a conversation about politics or religion and definitely not together. Well after reading Ms. Grummon’s letter to the editor on 10-22-24, I’m ready to start a ruckus.

I am a longtime Baptist, (a Sister from the Convent told me she would pray for me when I told her where I went to church), and along with that I am a pretty conservative person. I do believe that one should be open to someone else’s opinions as long as they are legal. That does not mean that I agree, but I will listen.

I also believe in Jesus and his teachings, but I believe Ms. Grummon forgot about what the Bible says about making judgments about another person. Now I admit this is one sin that I have a lot of trouble overcoming, but none the less it is there for all Christians to abide by.

Over the past years we have become a divided country over policies of one political party or another but if we are ever going to overcome this we need to be able to sit down and discuss our problems without the name calling, personal judgments and accusations.

It is so easy to take words out of context, but if you can put your feelings aside and try to have a meaningful conversation, maybe we could come together in some kind of agreement.

Now as for immigration, I know that Jesus was an immigrant but I don’t believe that is a basis for what we have seen in our country for the last three years which is telling the world “y’all come and we will give you free stuff.” I feel that I am a compassionate person, but I am very uneasy about the flood of people coming here with the whole world in turmoil and our government not knowing who or where these illegals are.

This is just one man’s opinion and I am sure that I will be branded as one of those deplorable people or something worse, but I will offer my forgiveness for what is said about me just as Jesus would do.
