What Jerry Moran didn’t say
Public Forum.jpg

To the Editor:

Senator Moran’s July 1st Newsletter touted his vote for the Senator Marshall version of the “Big Beautiful Bill.” He said it prevents a “tax hike on middle class families and small businesses.” He didn’t mention that with the cuts in Meals on Wheels, Medicare, Medicaid, Headstart, nursing home care, food assistance programs, NPR, PBS and other programs that the only income group coming out ahead with the tax cuts are the over $200,000 income households. He spun the delay in the Medicaid cuts as a chance for rural hospitals to not face many immediate cuts when the purpose was to not have the effects of the bill hit until after the 2026 election. He didn’t say that he voted against an amendment to the defense appropriations that would have kept defense funds from being used to upgrade the Qatari jet. His vote for $30 billion increase for ICE agent funding will give us tens of thousands of additional masked unidentified snatchers of people. They will be spirited away to the new $46 billion in privately run detention centers. He didn’t mention that as Elon Musk says the bill undermines America’s strategic future in crucial sectors like technology and renewable energy.
