Barton Cougars win first NJCAA soccer game

DAYTONA, Fla. — The No. 5 ranked Barton Cougar men's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals for a 2-1 victory over Blinn College, Texas in Pool D at the NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament.

Barton (17-4-2) plays No. 4 seed Daytona, Fla. for a berth in Thursday's national semifinals. The Falcons (13-2-2) beat Blinn College 2-1.

Just a tick less than four minutes into the contest, Diogo Gimenez found some space following Lucas Meibom's pass and unleashed a 25' laser to far post for his 5th marker of the season.

Barton built a 2-0 lead on Sho Kinjo's rise-n-shine header put away Rafael Calmon's corner kick for his second goal.  Calmon has five assists.

Blinn's Jordan Franco redirected Jesus Gonzalez's service to the back post, setting up a tense final 40 minutes.

The Cougars outshot Blinn 10-4, 7-2 in second half action. Barton goalie Gabriel Bergamin anchored a solid defensive line improved to a 9-2 record.
