EL DORADO -- The Barton Cougar women's basketball team found dug a 13-0 hole and never rallied in a 64-44 setback to the No. 2 ranked Butler Grizzlies.
Sadie Spray led the Cougars with 14 points, with a pair of three-pointers and two steals. Kodi Greer provided nine points. Mary Akinde grabbed 10 rebounds with six points. The Grizzlies (25-1, 19-1 Jayhawk) featured five players in double figures.
Barton held a 14-2 advantage in bench scoring. The Cougars finishing 15-of-59 (25%) and 5-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Cougars converted 9-of-12 free throws.
Butler shot 27-of-59 (46%) from the field and controlled the paint with a 26-10 scoring edge inside while outrebounding Barton 42-36.
The Grizzlies' Keegan Yarick, Ashley Singhateh, Mya Mayberry, and Aliyah Green each scored 13 points. Kenzie Galliart added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Grizzlies held Barton scoreless until Regina Donau's jumper at the 5:06. on the board, and Spray's layup made it 13-4 after one quarter.
Butler carried a 34-20 advantage into halftime after back-to-back Spray 3-pointers in the closing minute trimmed an 18-point deficit.
The third quarter featured both teams scoring 11 points. Barton improved defensively and battled on the glass. However, every Cougar push was answered. Butler stretched the margin to 22 points midway through the fourth quarter before the final 64-44 margin.
