BAT CATS 6, NEWTON REBELS 2 (G4) — The Bat Cats edged the Newton Rebels 6-2 Wednesday on Great Bend Bombers baseball night. The Bat Cats capped the evening with a postgame training session with all of the Bombers baseball players.

The Bat Cats (2-2) will play a Thursday doubleheader at Al Burns Memorial Field starting at 6 p.m. against the Wildcat Academy.

Great Bend's starter Elijah Lang (1-0) benefited from a brilliant defensive play. Left-fielder Peanut Brazzle relayed to catcher Luke Nohinek to throw out Newton's Caynen Patterson on Raisean Dorsey's fifth-inning single. Lang pitched five innings followed by Jacob Field for three innings and Carson Bougher for one inning.

Catcher Nohinek doubled, singled, scored two runs, and laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. Nohinek will team with Great Bend's Carson Umphres at Northeast Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas next year.

"I was trying to see the pitch and go with the pitch the other way," Nohinek said. "You adjust on the fly with the pitchers. Eli Lang showed his best stuff. His change-up was his best pitch tonight. Both our guys came out of the pen and did their job."

The Bat Cats scored in the first five innings. Deacon Pomeroy singled home T.J. Shaw in the first inning. Nohinek scored on a second-inning wild pitch. Peanut Brazzle scored on an Andrugh Yee sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Newton's John Neill scored on a Jaylon Humbles third-inning double. A Nohinek bunt helped Tony Moore score on a Joey Marker sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead. JJ Fontana scored on T.J. Shaw's fourth-inning single for a 5-1 lead. Brazzle's single scored Nohinek in the fifth inning for a 6-1 lead.

Newton's Jaylon Humble scored on a Tanner Peoples seventh-inning groundball.

BAT CATS 17, NEWTON REBELS 6 (G3) — The Bat Cats engineered a 7-run seventh inning with three hits to rally from a 6-5 deficit Monday. The Newton Rebels walked eight batters, threw six wild pitches and contributed seven errors.

Starter Tyler Clementz worked 41/3 innings and reliever Tyler Stuhlsatz threw 22/3 innings with a trio of strikeouts to earn the victory.

Bat Cat Devin Brazille drove home three runs. Deacon Pomeroy and T.J. Shaw each drove home two runs. Adding RBI were J.J. Fontana, Kyle Walker, Elias Leon and Caleb Cowan.

Newton's Karston Wall and Kasey Lowe each drove home two runs.
