Great Bend Bat Cat Carson Umphrey (.278) set the tone with a leadoff homer to spark a 13-0 lead en route to a 13-6 Jayhawk Collegiate League baseball victory over the Newton Rebels Saturday. Great Bend scored 35 runs in the past two games.
Tony Moore (.280) homered in back-to-back games and Andrugh Yee hit a round tripper. Great Bend used the big inning with four runs in the first, three in the fourth and six in the fifth for a 13-0 lead.
The Bat Cats (13-7, 12-5 Jayhawk) move within one-half game of Jayhawk leader Hutchinson (14-5, 13-5 Jayhawk).
Kyle Walker scored on a first-inning error and Yee's 2-run homer scored Elias Leon. Moore's third-inning homer was followed by Fontana's double scoring Luke Nohinek. Fontana scored on Walker's sacrifice fly.
T.J. Shaw scored on a Nohinek sacrifice fly to start a 6-run fifth inning. Walker's single scored Moore and Fontana. Umphres scored on Deacon Pomeroy's single. Walker scored on Leon's single. Pomeroy scored on a passed ball.
Newton's Caynen Patterson homered and drove home three runs. Raisean Dorsey and Corey Reece also drove home runs.
