It’s called football in most nations. Here is America, we call it soccer. But the Barton women’s soccer team is putting football (the American version) type numbers.

For the fourth time in its last six games (all six wins), the Cougars hit double digits on the scoreboard.

This time is was a season-high 14 goals in a 14-2 win over Northwest Tech in Jayhawk West action.

Barton, winners of those six straight, has not lost since since the second day of the September and are now 7-2-1 overall. The Cougars remain unbeaten in the West at 6-0-1. Northwest Tech is 2-5 and 2-5-1.

The top of the West is currently a 3-way race between Barton, Hutchinson (5-0-1) and Cloud County (5-1). Hutch and Cloud played Wednesday night in Hutchinson.

In the win over the Mavericks, Barton scored six times in the first half and eight more in the second.

Rayssa Neres continued to pour in goals. For the fifth time this season, she scored at least three goals. She has 23 goals on the season. That, around the midpoint of the year for Barton if you factor in a few post-season games. That is currently the sixth best all-time at Barton.

She is well on her way to moving into at least second on the single-season charts for Barton. That mark is held by Bianca Barron with 31. It will take some work to reach the dazzling school record of 58 scored by Shala Giardini in 2009.

Laura Maria scored three times as well in the win as the freshman recorded her first hat trick this year. She now has 13 goals on the year. Sophomore Larissa Fagundes scored twice and now has 11.

Margarita Franco scored her first collegiate goal for the Cougars in the win as did Georgia Lawton.

Barton will look to continue its assault on the West with a trip to Garden City Saturday for a 5 pm kickoff. Barton defeated Garden during this current streak 10 days ago, 12-0 in Great Bend.
