Bat Cats rout Monarchs

HUTCHINSON – Great Bend's Dawson Pomeroy made sure the Bat Cats got revenge. Pomeroy drove home four runs to spark the Bat Cats past the Hutchinson Monarchs 9-2 in Wednesday's Sunflower Collegiate League baseball game.

Great Bend (21-11) and Hutchinson (21-11) are tied for the second-place playoff berth in the West Division. The Bat Cats own the tiebreaker by winning three of four games against the Monarchs. The Bat Cats travel to Derby Thursday. The third-place West finisher plays the red-hot Derby Twins Monday.

Pomeroy got the Bat Cats rolling with a two-run single to score Collin Meinert and Ryan Monson. Daunte Freeman scored on a double play for a 3-0 lead. Monson singled home Nolan Riley for a 4-0 lead after two innings.

The Bat Cats scored four runs in the fourth inning. Monson singled home Brenden Tauber. Pomeroy tripled home Meinert and Monson. Pomeroy scored on a passed ball for an 8-0 lead.

Hutchinson's Brayden Whitchurch singled home Keith Wolverton and Mason Lowe scored on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning, Great Bend's Pomeroy scored on Brady Michel's eighth-inning groundout for s 9-2 lead.
