Cardinal baseball wins, Larned loses

HOISINGTON/CENTRAL PLAINS 6, LYONS 1 — Hoisington ace pitcher Lane French (7-1) struck out six batters to boost the Cardinals past Lyons 6-1 into the Clay Center 4A regional baseball championship game. Rhen Galla recorded the final out after French passed 105 pitches.

The Cardinals' pitchers maintained total control. Marcus Ingram doubled one Brodie Crites and Brody Corbett scored on a Kaidenn Chambers sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. Lyons' Carter Schrag scored on a second-inning error.

Aiden Hekele singled home French and Chambers for  4-1 third-inning lead. Crites singled home Rhen Galla in the fourth inning. French scored a fifth-inning run on a Kadin Umphrey groundout.

BUHLER 2, LARNED/LA CROSSE 0 — Larned pitcher Reese Morgan was unable to make a play on Jared Miller's perfect bunt single, which paved the way for Buhler's 2-run fifth inning in the McPherson 4A bseball regional.

Buhler's Nixon Standlee and Cash Carson delivered RBI singles after Jacob Miller and Brendann Scripsick started the sixth with singles. Morgan (3-3) struck out eight batters in a solid pitching outing.

Standlee retired Camden Bird and Easton Fox to strand Mason Miller at second base in the third inning. Fox ripped a leadoff fifth-inning double in a 0-0 game. But Buhler first baseman Brendan Scripsick relayed to third baseman Henry to throw out Fox at third base.
